Yeah, I think maybe that is various kind of how people would scream when they met cockroaches. But.. something that become question is why? Why are we afraid of cockroaches?
Before going any further, I want to tell you that I’m not saying that I’m not afraid of cockroaches. I’m afraid of them, but I’m not too scared. If there was a cockroach in my room, I would catch them and throw them out. But I still using plastic to catch them because I didn’t want to catch them with bare hand. It smells bad.
I don’t know how other people think about cockroaches. There are a few things I think about why people are afraid of cockroaches. Let’s talk about it.
The first reason may be about health issues. As we already know, cockroaches are known to carry a lot of microorganism. Someone even said, the cockroach may be a reservoir for a range of bacteria including Salmonella, Staphylococcus and Streptococcus. When I was in college, I was also told the same thing. Maybe because of that, we are afraid of cockroaches or rather we hate them because they are disgusting. It’s like we are looking at poop, but the poop has leg and wings. Ugh…
Still about a health issues, cockroaches also smell bad. I really hate their smell. When I was in a middle school, I accidentally met a cockroach in my class. I tried to catch it. But stupid me, I caught it with bare hand. And after that, I could smell the cockroach on my hand even though I’ve washed my hands with soap several times. Gratefully, I’m still alive until now.
Then, another reason why people are afraid of cockroaches I think it’s because of their morphology and behavior. Cockroaches have a brown flat body, with a flat leg that could help them run really fast, and wings that could turn them into a monster that would hunt you. I think from that description, we agree that they are not a loveable animal, except for those entomologists, perhaps, because they are maniac, although I think I would became one of them in the future maybe, ehe~
As a cosmopolitan species, cockroaches live near or in human settlement, and they eat our trashes. From there, we agree again, who is the one that love trash eating animals? Yeah although we love Black Soldier Flies (BSF). But, It’s different. BSF bring us benefit, while cockroaches bring diseases.
There are many reason why we are afraid of cockroaches as we discussed above. But, there is also another reason that makes me curious. Is it possible that we are afraid of cockroaches because… because… because it’s cute?
Yeah! I think thats the reason!
